Hearts of Wulin
A downloadable game
Hearts of Wulin is a game of wuxia melodrama, Powered by the Apocalypse. Players take the role of skilled martial artists in a world of rival clans, conspiracies, and obligations. The game emulates films like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Chinese wuxia TV series like The Untamed and Handsome Siblings, and Chinese martial arts novels from the second half of the twentieth century. In these tales, romance is as dangerous as a blade. Everyone has ties to factions, loves they can’t quite express, and secrets which will shake them to their core. As in the source material, stories in Hearts of Wulin are driven by the characters’ duties, romantic desires, and entanglements with other characters.
You get everything you need to play the game in three different styles: Core, Courtly, and Fantastic. The core game is as described above: a game of wuxia melodrama featuring wandering wulin warriors. The courtly style of play sets the game in a world of politics and factional scheming. The fantastic game adds strong elements of the supernatural to the story. Each style of play has its own playbooks and moves—it's like having three games in one!

Congratulations on your french translation!
Will there ever be a solo rpg supplement? I love the PBTA system, but I have a hell of a time getting anyone interested in playing the game with me….
Solo rpgs are a little outside my wheelhouse, I have to admit. But if someone decides to to make a hack of that, they would have my blessing.
Hi! Glad to hear this piece of news: Hearts of Wulin could be translated into french by Khelren. The world needs to know Inner Conflict. Wait… I mean: the Inner Conflict move, it’s a blast to play.
(and also, you have left the link to your dead tw*tter account on the itch page. Which in a way… is sort of cool as a statement.)
Ah, TY-- I'll go through and fix some of the social contacts stiff.
I just received the notes from the French translator, answering questions and clarifying points. I'm excited to see how it eventually looks!
Can anyone verify for me if the issue with the play materials that exists in the DTRPG edition of this game is a problem here too?
Specifically, in the reference materials (but not in the actual book) Comfort and Support says:
When you assist a fellow PC, roll.
On a hit you lift them up: they may choose to give you a Bond with them or clear a marked Element.
On a 7-9 you may also clear an Element yourself, ask them a question they must answer, give them a Bond with you, or gain +1 Influence (Courtly).
In a scene, you may use this move to aid someone before or after a roll. Spend a Bond you created with them to give them a +1 to their roll.
***
The bolded 7-9 is supposed to be a 10+ -- it's an extra benefit beyond the basic "on a hit" and if you check the book text, it's 10+Yes-- I'll see what I can do to fix that. I don't have access to the original layout files for the reference sheets, so I'll have to see if I can kludge a solution.
I was able to open the PDF in Affinity publisher and edit it easily, but in so doing I lost the fonts. If you know what fonts they are, you might be able to do something similar but more effective.
I will try that-- I have some of the fonts, but not all. A couple of them are no longer available from what I can tell.
Good luck! Let me know if I can help.
I will-- thanks!
Really glad you're enjoying it!
I'm in absolute love with this game!
I'm mastering a short (...maybe not as short as I thought at the beginning...) fantasy/mystery/romantic adventure for a 4 player/7 characters group and up 'til now it's all fun and failing spectacularly Inner Conflict move!
We come from danmei fandom and we were looking for a system to play out our favorite tropes and characters and this one is perfect. The archetypes of the playbooks are very adaptable and give you infinite possibilities for character creation, the rules are excellently balanced between interactions and fights and give you plenty of space to move from emotional moments to tense duels and facing supernatural entities. Plus, we are so in love with the entanglements system! PbtA is perfect for this kind of setting!
I've already purchased all the manuals for this ttrpg (this and Worlds on Drivethrurpg and Numberless secrets here, what a mess!) and I can't wait to explore more of its features!
